Where is Fort Worth?
Fort Worth is in north-central Texas, on the West Fork of the Trinity River. It is the western anchor of a metropolitan area it shares with Dallas, with Arlington sitting between the two. The city is about 190 miles north of Austin, roughly 200 miles south of Oklahoma City, and some 265 miles northwest of Houston.

No. 11 on the 2024 list is a margin of 1,727 people: that is how far Fort Worth trails Jacksonville, while San Jose is 10,738 further back. Within Texas it comes fourth of fourteen, behind Houston, San Antonio and Dallas. Against Texas's 31.29 million residents, though, that is only about 3.2%. It reaches into five counties, of which Tarrant County is much the largest: the city holds about 45% of that county's 2,230,708 people.
Fort Worth in Texas
Fort Worth is the seat of Tarrant County and has annexed into Denton, Johnson, Parker and Wise counties as it has grown north and west — five counties in all on the Texas county map. Its growth is now among the fastest of any large US city, pushing it past several older places in the rankings. The Cross Timbers and the edge of the plains
The Cross Timbers are two north-south belts of sandy soil and scrub oak that cut across Texas and Oklahoma, and Fort Worth sits on the eastern belt. Nineteenth-century travellers treated them as a wall; cattle drives north followed corridors through them, and the city grew as the last supply point before the open country. West of town the land rises onto the rolling prairie that grades into the Great Plains, and the change in vegetation is still obvious from the road.
